County considers Pulliam Power Plant purchase, GLC Minerals expansion

GREEN BAY – The Brown County Board of Supervisors will not only consider purchasing the Pulliam Power Plant site this week, but also selling a portion of the land to facilitate a multimillion dollar port expansion.

The board on Wednesday will be asked to approve an agreement to buy 43.75 acres of the Pulliam plant site, at the mouth of the Fox River, from Wisconsin Public Service Corp. for $2.7 million. The board will also be asked to approve an agreement to sell 9.7 acres of the parcel to GLC Minerals for about $875,000.

Obtaining the property would allow an expansion of port operations and relocation of the C. Reiss Coal Co. coal piles from prime riverfront property near Mason Street, officials said.

The county would pay for the Pulliam property with $2.2 million from a Port of Green Bay enterprise fund and a $500,000 Idle Sites Grant that the county received from the Wisconsin Economic Development Corp. in January.
