China’s first ‘carbon-neutral’ gas station goes into service
State energy giant Sinopec put into operation a solar-powered gasoline station that it describes as China’s first “carbon-neutral” service station, the company said Tuesday. The Jiaze station in Changzhou, Jiangsu province, is equipped with solar panels that are projected to generate 127,000–147,000 kilowatts annually. That would more than offset the 99,000 kilowatts the station consumed in 2020 and would lower carbon dioxide emissions by 91.2 –105.6 tons, the company said.
Former PetroChina executive detained in corruption probe
Li Anqi, a former China National Petroleum Corp. (PetroChina) executive, was detained as part of a corruption investigation, Caixin reported. Li was a vice president of a PetroChina division that’s developing the country’s massive Changqing oil field. His arrest is related to a case involving Tang Xin, the oil field’s chief dispatcher, who was detained in January on suspicion of corruption, Caixin learned.
Graft probe snares another top official at regional steelmaker
Dong Ruizhang, a vice president of Kunming Iron and Steel Group Co. Ltd., is under investigation for “serious violations of discipline,” according to authorities in Southwest China’s Yunnan province. The phrase almost always refers to corruption. Dong is the fourth top official at the steelmaker who has been caught up in an anti-corruption dragnet, spotlighting often weak corporate governance at big state-owned enterprises in China’s less-developed areas.
Shangji Automation unit signs $790 million silicon purchase contract
The Hongyuan New Material (Baotou) Co. Ltd. unit of Wuxi Shangji Automation Co. Ltd. (603185.SH) signed a 5.1 billion yuan ($790.9 million) contract with Xinjiang Xiexin New Energy Material Technology for polycrystalline silicon, Wuxi Shangi said Tuesday. Hongyuan New Material will buy 31,000 tons of the raw material for electronics and photovoltaics between June 2021 and December 2023.
Huaibei Mining starts new coal mine operation in Anhui
Huaibei Mining’s Xinhu coalmine started trial production at the Xinhu Coal Mine developed by its subsidiary Anhui Bozhou Coal Industry Co. Ltd., the company said. The Xinhu mine, in Woyang county, Anhui province, mainly produces coking coal with annual production capacity of 3 million tons.
State railway builder CRCC secures $10 billion of contracts
China’s state-owned railway builder China Railway Construction Co. Ltd. (601186.SH) won bids for eight major projects totaling 66.7 billion yuan ($10.4 billion), the company said Tuesday. The contracts would generate income equivalent to 7.32% of the company’s operating revenue in 2020.
Yaguang Technology to develop hydrogen fuel cells for ships with partners
Yaguang Technology Group Co., Ltd. (300123.SZ) signed a strategic cooperation agreement to develop hydrogen fuel cells for ships with several partners, the company said. The partners include Tsingyan Huake Institute of New Energy (Nanjing) Co. Ltd., Nanjing Tsingyan Engineering Technology Co. Ltd. and Shenzhen Guoxin Deta Technology Information Co. Ltd. Hydrogen fuel cells use a chemical reaction to generate electricity that can be used for zero-emissions propulsion.
