Knox Mine disaster remembered at anthracite museum | News

The annual Knox Mine disaster commemoration was held Saturday at Anthracite Heritage Museum in Scranton. Claire Greaves, above, of Clarks Summit looks through some of the memorabilia on display at the museum. Greaves was working as a telephone operator at Gravity Railroad and the Pennsylvania Coal Co. offices in Dunmore on Jan. 22, 1959, when she received a call from a supervisor saying the Knox Mine was flooding. Twelve miners died in the accident in Jenkins Twp.
