Weld County oil spills for June 30 – Greeley Tribune

The following spills were reported to the Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission in the past two weeks.

Information is based on Form 19, which operators must fill out detailing the leakage/spill events. Any spill release that may impact waters of the state must be reported as soon as practical. Spills and leaks typically are found during routine maintenance on existing wells, though some actual “spills” do occur among the 24,000-plus wells in the county.

» DCP OPERATING COMPANY LP reported June 28 a recent gas-gathering pipeline system spill near Weld County roads 74 and 41, about 1 mile east of Eaton. Less than a barrel of condensate spilled. A third party struck and damaged a 3-inch gas-gathering pipeline. The operator was notified immediately and shut in the pipeline within 30 minutes of discovery. Investigation is underway.

» HIGHPOINT OPERATING CORPORATION reported June 28 a recent spill near Weld 128 and 63, about 7 miles southwest of Hereford. About 1 barrel of produced water spilled. A compromised fitting on the separator caused the release to the plated well pad surface. Impacted soil will be removed, and soil samples will be collected for analysis.

» KERR MCGEE OIL & GAS ONSHORE LP reported June 24 a historical tank battery spill about 1 mile east of Weld 16 and 41. An unknown amount of oil, condensate and produced water spilled. Historically impacted soil was found during plugging and abandonment at the wellhead. Assessment is ongoing.

» KERR MCGEE OIL & GAS ONSHORE LP reported June 24 a historical well site spill near Weld 34 and 19, about 5 miles northwest of Platteville. An unknown amount of oil, condensate and produced water spilled. Historically impacted soil was found beneath an aboveground storage tank during partial facility closure. Assessment is ongoing.

» PDC ENERGY INC reported June 24 a historical well site spill near AA Street and North 35th Avenue, northeast of Greeley. An unknown amount of oil and produced water spilled. Delineation and clean-up are underway.

» PDC ENERGY INC reported June 24 a historical well site spill near Weld 64 and 53, about 4 miles north of Kersey. An unknown amount of oil and produced water spilled. Delineation and clean-up are underway.

» PDC ENERGY INC reported June 24 a historical tank battery spill near Weld 74 and 55, about 2 miles east of Galeton. An unknown amount of oil and produced water spilled. Delineation and clean-up are underway.

» KERR MCGEE OIL & GAS ONSHORE LP reported June 23 a historical well site spill near Weld 34 and 19 1/2, about 3 miles northwest of Platteville. An unknown amount of oil, condensate and produced water spilled. Historically impacted soil was found during plugging and abandonment at the wellhead. Assessment is ongoing.

» KERR MCGEE OIL & GAS ONSHORE LP reported June 23 a historical well site spill near Weld 32 and 37, about 5 miles east of Platteville. An unknown amount of oil, condensate and produced water spilled. Historically impacted soil was found during plugging and abandonment at the wellhead. Assessment is ongoing.

» DCP OPERATING COMPANY LP reported June 22 a historical gas-gathering pipeline system spill about 3 miles south of U.S. 34 and Weld 42.5, about 10 miles northwest of Wiggins. An unknown amount of condensate spilled. Crews saw distressed vegetation and began an investigation. Photoionization detection concentrations suggest impacts to the soil, but finalized laboratory data was pending at the time of the report. Saturated soils were found about 25 feet below ground surface, where elevated PID readings were observed.

An unknown amount of condensate spilled. Crews saw distressed vegetation and began an investigation. Photoionization detection concentrations suggest impacts to the soil, but finalized laboratory data was pending at the time of the report. Saturated soils were found about 19 feet below ground surface, where elevated PID readings were observed.

» DCP OPERATING COMPANY LP reported June 22 a historical gas-gathering pipeline system spill near Weld 14 and 71, about 6 miles southeast of Keenesburg. Less than a barrel of condensate spilled. Crews saw distressed vegetation and shut in the pipeline for investigation. On June 21, the operator found two pinhole leaks in the pipeline. Investigation is ongoing.

» KERR MCGEE OIL & GAS ONSHORE LP reported June 21 a historical tank battery spill near Weld 12 and 41, about 1.5 miles west of Hudson. An unknown amount of oil, condensate and produced water spilled. Historically impacted soil was found during tank removal. Assessment is ongoing.

» HIGHPOINT OPERATING CORPORATION reported June 21 a recent tank battery spill about 1 mile southeast of Weld 74 and 81, about 8 miles south of Briggsdale. An unknown amount of oil spilled. A partially buried fiberglass tank was compromised, releasing oil to the ground and subsurface. Impacted soil will be removed following utility locates. Samples will be collected for analysis.

» BONANZA CREEK ENERGY OPERATING COMPANY LLC reported June 19 a historical tank battery spill near Weld 380 and 67, about 6 miles east of Kersey. An unknown amount of oil spilled. The operator found historical soil impacts near the production tank containment during a facility decommissioning site assessment. Initial screening did not display signs of a historical release, but analysis showed TPH exceedances. Impacted soil will be removed, and additional samples will be analyzed.

» NOBLE ENERGY INC reported June 15 a historical tank battery spill near F Street and North 35th Avenue, just north of Greeley. An unknown amount of oil, condensate and produced water spilled. The operator determined 1-methylnaphthalene and naphthalene concentrations exceeded groundwater soil screening levels. Assessment is ongoing.
