Gas leak results in Hoquiam evacuations – KIRO 7 News Seattle
HOQUIAM, Wash. — Two blocks of Hoquiam were evacuated on Tuesday after an uncontrolled natural gas leak occurred around 3 p.m.
The gas leak at the intersection of Bay Avenue and Ontario Street resulted in evacuations for the 2500 and 2600 blocks of Bay Avenue and Pacific Avenue.
Reported around 2:15 p.m., the smell of gas came from an uncontrolled natural gas release in a 2-inch Cascade Natural Gas service line.
Cascade Natural Gas responded to the scene.
Hoquiam police issued evacuation orders for the two blocks affected by the release and traffic was restricted from 22nd Avenue to Myrtle Street on Bay Avenue, Pacific Avenue and Aberdeen Avenue.
Grays Harbor YMCA officials offered their facility as a shelter for people displaced by the evacuation orders.
At 4:45 p.m., the leak was contained and the evacuation orders were lifted.
The cause of the release is under investigation.
