By Ria Bhatia

Tea tree oil, a naturally derived essential oil from the tea tree plant, is packed with a bunch of skin and hair benefits like antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and antimicrobial properties.
It is one of the most effective treatments to diminish and control acne. Besides taking care of active acne, it can also help in case of blemishes, zits, scars and marks that a pesky pimple can leave behind, thanks to its healing and sebum-controlling properties.

Dilute the oil before applying it to the skin. You can either add a drop or two of tea tree oil to your moisturiser or serum and apply it to the skin or dilute it with some witch hazel (about ¼ cup) and use it as a toner.

It is also great to combat inflammation of all types. It’s anti-inflammatory properties help reduce redness, swelling and any irritation that come along with inflammation. You can mix it with some carrier oils and rub it over affected areas to soothe, calm and heal inflammation.
It can relieve you from itchy and flaky scalp. You can pair tea tree oil with coconut, almond or jojoba oil and massage it all over your scalp or pick a shampoo infused with it.

You can also add a drop or two of tea tree oil to your mouthwash and swish it in your mouth for freshness and good breath, and to retrench any budding infection.
